We are a doctor-based organization focused on helping make the practice of medicine a better, happier place. With the help of our colleagues we are organizing against the GMC (General Medical Council) the regulator of doctors in the UK. This is because we believe the GMC is no longer fit for purpose. It goes after the wrong doctors and doesn't hear the concerns of actual patients enough. It has abandoned patients because harm to patients is the least likely cocern to attract the interest of the GMC. Instead it focuses on persecuting doctors over obscure concepts like 'probity' which it itself cannot define, but which then allows it to find doctors guilty no matter what.

There are two on-line petitions we want you to sign.
The first is a petition to Parliament and if a petition gets 10,000 signatures, the Government will respond. If it gets 100,000 signatures it will be considered for debate in parliament.

The petition:
Remove regulation of medical profession from the General Medical Council
Government and Parliament must grasp that regulation of the Medical profession by the General Medical Council (GMC) is not working; patients remain in danger of harm by negligent doctors while often good doctors are persecuted for bizarre reasons, eg 'bringing profession into disrepute'.
The British Medical Journal refers to the GMC as 'not fit for purpose': '... barristers instructed by the GMC are often perceived as trophy hunters. This ... resulted in 29 doctors taking their own lives while under investigation by the GMC during 2018 to 2020.' BMJ 2022;379:o2674 http://dx.doi.org/10.1136/bmj.o2674 Published: 09 November 2022
The GMC is also guilty of racism: https://www.colekhan.co.uk/news/world-renowned-doctor-wins-landmark-race-discrimination-claim-against-the-gmc#_ftn1

Go as well to the second petition which specifically calls for the resignation of the CEO of the GMC and sign it here:
For both petitions encourage friends and family to sign; once a large enough number have signed perhaps doctors will also start to sign more easily as well, because they will become less afraid that they will be targeted by the GMC.
Everyone should commit themselves to passing the link to at least ten colleagues, friends or family to sign and encourage each of them to forward to ten more each.
If you are a doctor do a data access request of the GMC.

If you are a doctor do a data access request of the GMC.
It is a legal right of every individual and all organisations are very used to receiving them, it is in no way inflammatory and does not represent a legal claim or action. In that respect, we can’t see any way it could be ‘held against’ anyone or be otherwise unhelpful to anyone even if they are already facing disciplinary action at the GMC.
The GMC website states that data subject access requests can be sent by email to foi@gmc-uk.org
We suggest using the ICO standard recommended template to make the request. This can be found here. In terms of the square bracketed section regarding the personal data requested, we would insert the following:
“Please supply the personal data you hold about me, which I am entitled to receive under data protection law, namely copies of all personal data processed about me by you in any form.”
The reason every doctor should routinely do data access requests of the GMC is that it will give doctors more information about the processing of personal data about them which will be important for informing any additional rights or claims they have and the best way to approach this.
The GMC frequently investigates doctors without even telling them that they are being investigated. A data access request will flush this out if it is happening.
Also if just a few thousand doctors do data access requests it will rapidly help the GMC understand it has lost the trust of the profession, which is a confidence it needs in order to function properly. Once it loses the trust of the profession, being inundated with data access requests is a practical and functinal consequence which the GMC will experience somewhat directly. This then may be the most powerful way for them to be encouraged to reconsider their relationship with the profession.
The exact wording we suggest to use in the email is this:
Subject access request
FROM (INSERT YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS HERE)
Please supply the personal data you hold about me, namely copies of all personal data processed about me by you in any form, which I am entitled to receive under data protection law.
I would prefer to receive the data printed out.
It may be helpful for you to know that data protection law requires you to respond to a request for personal data within one calendar month.
If you do not normally deal with these requests, please pass this letter to your data protection officer or relevant staff member.
If you need advice on dealing with this request, the Information Commissioner’s Office can assist you. Its website is ico.org.uk, or it can be contacted on 0303 123 1113.
Yours faithfully

MPTS hearings are crucial in ensuring the protection of the public. Tribunals have to make difficult and important decisions, which are fair, proportionate and consistent. It’s important that all participants are treated with sensitivity and respect and that proceedings remain dignified throughout. It’s particularly important that observers behave appropriately. We collect the information below to ensure we can maintain the integrity of the hearing. If you wish to observe a virtual hearing remotely, we will ask for proof of your name and UK address, and for your express agreement with our terms of access. Requests should be made at least 48 hours before the start of the hearing you wish to observe. Go here to observe a GMC hearing https://www.mpts-uk.org/observe-a-hearing-expression-of-interest

These FOI inquries are legitimate as doctors need to understand better what the senior figures in the GMC are up to. The expenses tell us something of how they spend their time. Doctors need to understand just how the GMC became so out of touch with the daily experience of doctors. Inquiring as to how the GMC is spending doctors' subscriptions is perfectly reasonable, particularly if the GMC has lost the confidence of the profession.
And complain about the GMC
